On Tuesday, July 30, 2013, from 7-9 PM, neighborhoods throughout Pleasant Hills are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for our "19th Annual National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event. Residents are invited to join in the celebration with police, fire and medics by turning on their lights, locking their doors and coming outside to spend the evening with family members and neighbors. Residents are encouraged to host block parties, cookouts, and youth activities. This is a great time for all age groups, from young children to senior citizens; to get to know each other and build relationships which will enhance family based ideals. Emergency equipment from numerous public safety organizations will form a procession and travel throughout the borough, visiting neighborhoods in an effort to highlight the importance of a strong police-community partnership. We expect to be joined this year by the STAT MedEvac and Pennsylvania State Police helicopters, performing a "fly-over" of our procession, clowns, costumed characters and the Blue Knights and Gold Wing Motorcycle Clubs will add to the fun. Officers from the police department will personally stop at each registered gathering to visit with residents and talk about safety issues. Recognition will be given to every block party facilitator that participates in National Night Out. National Night Out is designed to: (1) heighten drug and crime prevention awareness; (2) generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; (3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) send a message to criminals that we are taking a stand against crime. This year's event is being sponsored by The Borough of Pleasant Hills, the Pleasant Hills Police Department, Pleasant Hills Public Works Department, Pleasant Hills Volunteer Fire Company, Baldwin E.M.S. Ambulance Service and the American Legion Post 712. We are expecting to be joined by representatives of the U.S. Armed Forces and several of their specialized vehicles. Residents can arrange for a personal visit from a police officer at their function, by calling the police department at 412-655-5045. On non-through streets, gatherings should be held as close to the nearest intersection as possible. Additional information can be obtained by calling Lieutenant Sean Greene or Chief Ed Cunningham at 412-655-5045. ******************************************************************************************* |
