2013 Garbage Collection Days and Holidays

Garbage collection for the entire Borough will continue to be collected every Wednesday. However, when Waste Management celebrates a Holiday on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, it will delay our collection one day later that week. The Holiday Weeks that are affected are as follows: 

New Year's Day - Collection Thursday, January 3rd
Memorial Day - Collection Thursday, May 30th
Labor Day - Collection Thursday, September 5th
Christmas Day - Collection Thursday, December 26th

Guidelines for Garbage Collection: Garbage should be properly secured in containers or plastic bags. Grass clippings and weeds should be in plastic bags. Hedge cuttings, limbs and branches should be securely tied and should not exceed 48 inches in lenght; branches should not exceed 3 inches in diameter. All furniture items, appliances (freon removed and tagged), household goods and disassembled children's swing sets will be accepted at curbside. Carpet should be rolled and tied in lengths not to exceed 48 inches so that one person can lift. Empty paint cans and/or dried paint is acceptable. Paint can be dried by air drying or soaking up with newspaper or kitty litter. Lids should be left off.

Excluded Items: Building material, tires, automobile parts including wheel rims, trees and branches over 3 inches in diameter, ashes from furnaces and fireplaces, stones, dirt and liquid paint. Please contact Waste Management @ 412-405-0680 or 1-800-866-4460 forfurther information or to schedule a special pick-up for a fee.

2013 Recycling Dates

Recycling material will be collected every other week on the following dates:

January 3,16 & 30
February 13 & 27
March 13 & 27 
April 10 & 24
May 8 & 22
June 5 & 19
July 3, 17 & 31
August 14 & 28
September 11 & 25 
October 9 & 23
November 6 & 20
December 4 & 18

Materials to be Recycled: Clear, brown & green glass, aluminum cans, steel cans, bi-metallic cans, plastic types (1 thru 7), high grade office paper, newsprint, advertising inserts, junk mail, catalogs, phone books, paperback books, paper bags, shopping bags (handles removed), magazines and multi grades of corrugated cardboard. *Corrugated cardboard must be tied or bundled and no longer than 14" x 14". These recyclables should be placed loose in a single recycling container.

EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2013:  A NEW LAW PROHIBITS LANDFILLS FROM RECEIVING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:  TV'S AND COMPUTER EQUIPMENT.  COMPUTER EQUIPMENT INCLUDES LAPTOPS, MONITORS, CPU'S, PRINTERS, SCANNERS, KEYBOARD, MOUSES, SPEAKERS, CABLE AND BATTERY BACKUPS.

2013 Leaf Collection Dates

Leaves for the entire Borough in the Fall will be collected on the following Wednesdays:

October- 23rd & 30th      -     November- 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th 

There will be a ONE TIME SPRING leaf pick-up on Wedensday, April 24, 2013

Garbage, recycling and leaves should be placed at the curbside Tuesday after 12:00 noon the day before the scheduledWEDNESDAY pickup. Leaves must be placed in BROWN paper biodegradable bags. PLASTIC BAGS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED during leaf collection dates above. (After the dates above, you may place your leaves in plastic bags for regular garbage collection.)

Garbage Collection:  Pleasant Hills Borough residents are billed quarterly (post card stytle). Please make check payable to BPH-410 and mail to P.O. Box 2430, Pgh., PA  15230-2430.  Any further questions, please call 412-693-1120.

Wastewater (Sewer) Billing:  Pleasant Hills Borough residents are billed monthly for wastewater (sewer) charges.  The Municipal Building has a Drop Off Box located on the 1st Floor for payments for your convenience.  Please contact Legal Tax Service Inc., 714 Lebanon Church Road, West Mifflin, PA 15122-1030, 412-464-9555 with any questions.

Farmers Market sponsored by the Pleasant Hills Lions Club starts Thursday, May 16th.  Market hours are from 3:30pm-7:00pm at the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church parking lot located at 199 Old Clairton Road.  Market continues through Thursday, October 17th.
